Mobilising your army. KR Multicase: A review

Santa was kind to me this year. Among the gifts I was lucky enough to receive, the most substantial was from my wife – a case for my figures.

Now she did not know the type of case I needed so she turned to me for advice. I knew the type but not the best source so I turned to fellow Model Dadder Justin. Justin knew all these things of course and soon I was on the KR multicase website perusing the various options.

Justin is the current host of all our games and so I do a fair bit of transportation with my little men and machines, so from the various options, I selected a standard sized ‘premium’ aluminium case.

After selecting the case you are invited to select core trays that are Flames of War compatible.

Three weeks later and it’s Christmas Day at last, and for a fleeting moment as I am unwrapping my new case I am twelve years old again (and then the anti climax as it sinks in its just a case after all). However, that very evening I slink away from drinking vermouth snowballs and eating cheese straws and begin assembling my German Panzergrenadiers into their new billet.

I soon realised that I have somehow ended up with 7 identical trays, all standard infantry sized. So eventually after a brief consultation with Justin,

Chris “I or KRM cocked up the order, I have all infantry trays”
Justin “Contact KRM”
Chris “I can’t wait, I want an instant solution”
Justin “Use a scalpel”

So by hook or by crook I managed to shoehorn everything in. Of course the real test will be a review of the figures after five years of being hauled around, but at least I am now fully mobile and prepared for war. Well, little ones anyway.

Not so much Good Will to all men?

Is it just me or is this email I received from Wayland Games a little disingenuous?

‘Wallet feeling a little bloated?… Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket?

We have therefore decided to spoil you all with one final Christmas present – a special promotion on a number of key items from the Flames of War range. Oh and FREE SHIPPING!!

First-off, we have their fantastic Open Fire Starter Set…and we’re offering it to you for a limited time for just £**.**!!

We also have the Flames of War Rulebook… Again – for a limited time only, we are able to offer the Flames of War Rulebook for just £**.**!!

Finally, we have the brilliant ‘Das Book’…for just £*.**!!’.

Hold on a second, let me get this straight. After Battlefront announce version 3 is in the pipeline for March 2012 with free mini-rulebooks available from mid-late February, Wayland Games announce a ‘special promotion’ on existing stock?

I just think it’s a case of: we’ve over stocked on soon to be out-dated products and want to off-load these on to unsuspecting new – or younger – players keen to get their hands on a [slightly] reduced copy of FoW with money received over Christmas.

To be fair, new players taking advantage of a reduced version 2 rulebook will be able to trade it in for the revised mini-rulebooks in February, but Wayland Games are hardly being transparent.

I just think it’s all a bit tight particularly when the email was sent on Christmas Day (Christmas Day! Boy, that really is grim…).

And, relax.

Now where did I put that Pepto-Bismol?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It’s all quiet on the Eastern Front as painting takes second place to Star Wars. I’m just finishing off some ISU-152s, SU-100s and the remainder of my T34s so that they can see action in the New Year.

We’re conscious that the blog and the website needs updating so we’ll probably make use of the holiday period to update stuff and prepare content for 2012.

All that remains to say is merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Chris and Justin.

Free rules, a new church and a meter long train!

Christmas comes early with Battlefront announcing yesterday that they’ll be giving away (giving away? Fantastic!) mini – but complete – version 3 FoW rulebooks to all those of us who have version 2 copies for a month from mid-February onwards.

Check ou the official announcement:

And there was me thinking that Grey Wolf, Red Bear and version 3 were all cynical ploys to raise capital :P

Fair play, this is another example of excellent customer service and I take my hat of to the chaps over at Battlefront! 3 cheers everyone…

Also excited to see potentially new Eastern Front Battlefield-in-a-Box sets on the horizon if all things go to plan with Gale Force 9 (European buildings anyone? :D ).  The Russian Orthodox church looks amazing and I’m quite tempted by the new houses.  Interesting to note the railway station and platform, but I think Ii’ll stick with my old – and as yet unpainted – example from Ironclad (see earlier review below):

Looks like 2012 is shaping up to be a good ‘un.
